Hawkes Bay and the Thermal Explorer Highway

Post four.

Napier is just a big surprise. The place was wiped out by an earthquake in 1931 and then rebuilt. Someone at the time had the great idea of using an Art Deco theme for all the buildings and public spaces. So the entire downtown area has been rebuilt using this theme and they have stuck diligently to it through the years. It has been a great tourist idea too as every year there is an Art Deco week and people come from all over the world to enjoy the many many events hosted. We stayed at the County Hotel and it was art deco through and through. A beautiful building both inside and out. http://www.artdeconapier.com/ if you are looking to go.

From Napier we went to Taupo. Our first day of rain. Boy did it ever. All the way from Napier to Taupo it just thundered down. By the time we got to Taupo it was just scattered showers, heavy ones but scattered.

A very cool seat

Huka Falls is just out of Taupo on the way to Rotorua and is NZ's most visited tourist attraction. That would be because it is within viewing distance of every person who goes there. You could be carried in on someones back as the carpark is so close. It is the most amazing colour. The amount of air mixed into the water is what makes it the most beautiful blue.
